What happened

  • Net advances at the end of the quarter were ₹5,77,094 crore, up 24.7% year on year and 12.7% from the June quarter, according to Sahi and Whalesbook.
  • Total deposits were ₹6,51,491 crore, up 23.2% year on year and 13.7% from the previous quarter.
  • CASA deposits were ₹2,49,105 crore, up 11.3% year on year and 7.8% on the quarter.
  • The reports say year-end balances included large FCNR(B) deposit inflows under the Reserve Bank of India's concessional swap window, about ₹55,344 crore (US$5.78 billion).

Why it matters

The deposit total includes the one-off FCNR(B) inflows, so the growth rates are not a like-for-like read of ordinary deposit gathering. The figures are provisional.

Good to know: CASA stands for current account and savings account deposits, the low-cost part of a bank's deposits. FCNR(B) deposits are foreign-currency term deposits that non-resident Indians can hold in India.
